Kishtwar Shutdown on August 17, 2016

The people of Kishtwar on Wednesday observed a day long shutdown against the fresh spat of killings in Beerwah and Islamabad areas of Kashmir on Tuesday in which 5 civilians were killed taking tool to 66 civilian deaths in Kashmir uprising, so far, triggered by the death of Hizb commander Burhan Wani killing on July 8, 2016.

As per the details available with Kashmir Life, the shutdown call was given by Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar Farooq Ahmed Kichloo at around 10 PM on Tuesday against the fresh killings in Kashmir.

Responding to the shutdown call, all the business establishments which belonged to Muslim community remained closed, besides the private education institutions also remain shut.

However, traffic normally plied on roads.

Keeping in view the shutdown call, extra forces were deployed in many sensitive areas of Kishtwar by government.

Even though the day passes peacefully, but the situation in Kishtwar is still tense ahead of upcoming Friday.

Meanwhile, CN added that people of Mendhar also observed shutdown today. The call was given by Imam Jamia Masjid Maulana Muhammad Sultan Naqashbandhi.

All the business establishments and schools remained closed at the twin places while a thin attendance was recorded in government offices.
