Once again Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani was arrested when he started a protest march on Friday. It has been time and again when the resistance leadership calls for any protest march, forces foil it.
On Thursday, the united resistance leadership asked people to march towards Aripanthan to offer congregational Friday prayers and pay tributes to four “martyred” persons who were killed by forces August 16, 2016.
An office bearer of Geelani led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat said that Geelani along with his party activists started the march around 1 PM when forces stopped them.
“Police did not allow them to proceed towards Beerwah,” he said, “instead, he was arrested at Airport road and lodged at Humhama Police Station.”
Earlier, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq too was arrested when he tried to march towards Beerwah.
Meanwhile, police foiled ‘Beerwah march led by Democratic Freedom Moment (DPM) from Abi Guzar in Lal chowk.
A statement issued by DPM said that its chairperson Firdous Ahmad Shah along with his supporters assembled at Abi Guzar and raised pro-freedom and anti-Indian slogans.
At least two police vehicles were stationed outside the Jamia Masjid Abi Guzar and did not allow people to march towards Beerwah. Later, the protestors held a Sit-In protest.
