SRINAGAR

National Conference on Tuesday lashed out at Mehbooba Mufti and her Government for their crackdown against Government employees and the EJAC leaders and said this has yet again “exposed” Mehbooba’s “intolerance and tyrannical state of mind”.

NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani condemned the transfer of EJAC leaders including its President Abdul Qayoom Wani and its General Secretary Farooq Trali to the Central Jail in Srinagar and also condemned official threats beings issued to employees to join their duties without any assurances for their safety and protection.

“The crackdown on the EJAC leadership in extremely condemnable and belies all claims of ‘affection’ and ‘empathy’ that Mehbooba Mufti based her political ascent on. That the EJAC leaders have been shifted to the Central Jail indicates that the Mehbooba Government is willing to break all limits of repression to survive widespread dissent against its tyranny and insensitivity,” the NC Provincial President said in a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar this evening.

The NC Provincial President said the Mehbooba Government was treated employees like “terrorists” and it doesn’t suit an elected government to issue public threats against its own employees in such a volatile situation.

“Government employees are not responsible for the stalemate and volatile situation in Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti is herself responsible for the escalation and aggravation of the situation and she should introspect rather than issuing threats to employees that money will be recovered from their accounts. When Mehbooba Mufti cant ensure the safety of employees and when there is a clear and palpable sense of uncertainty in the Valley, how can she threaten employees of dire consequences?” Nasir Aslam Wani asked.

“These are the same employees who have worked with heroic valour in some of the most trying circumstances and it is based on their hard work and courage in the face of adversity that the State had recovered from the governance-lag and developmental-deficiency in the post-turmoil era. Mehbooba Mufti should lose her arrogance and stop insulting the employees,” the NC Provincial President added in the statement.

The NC Provincial President said National Conference demands the immediate release of the EJAC leaders and said the Government’s arrogant and repressive behaviour was unacceptable.
