SRINAGAR

Angry protestors set ablaze one storey house of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kund Block president.

Kund is a remote village in Kulgam district in South Kashmir.

Early in the day, Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti visited family of a slain youth, Mashooq Ahmad, who was killed in police and CRPF firing on July 09.

Identified as Gulzar Ahmad Shaikh, he was asked to resign from PDP and get four detained youth released.

CM flew in a chopper which landed in an army camp and thereafter drove in her cavalcade to the village to meet the family of Mashooq. Protests erupted when people came to know about Ms Mufti’s visit.

“Hundreds of people marched towards Shaikh’s home in Warpora village after CM left but elders intervened and it was conveyed to him to get the local youths released by evening,” local sources said, “but there was no sign o Shaikh till late in the evening and his house was attacked and set ablaze.”

There was no report of any harm to any human, however.

At least four youths were arrested during protests today from the area.

“Sheikh facilitated Ms Mufti’s visit to meet the victim family early morning,” the locals said.
