At least 150 para-military CRPF men raided a village of central Kashmir’s Budgam village and firing tear smoke canisters, PAVA, rubber bullets and pellets.

Local sources from Sozaith village, 15 KM way from Lal Chowk situated on the left side of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad Highway, said that the villagers have blocked routes leading inside and out of the village because of fear of raids. Sozaith border Srinagar Budgam districts and falls in Beerwah assembly segment. It consists of at least six Mohallas.

“The CRPF men stationed their vehicles almost 200 metres away from Danjpora Mohalla of Sozaith as they could not enter the village due to blockade,” the sources said, “everything was normal when the raid by CRPF men caught us by unawares.”

The local sources added that the forces before firing the shells, pellets and rubber bullets, damaged the electricity transformers. “Electricity went off as CRPF raided some moments ahead of Maghrib Namaz.”

They further said, “people were staying home and a few shops had opened as people were buying essentials.”

“Soon, tear gas canisters landed amongst people followed by PAVA shells as youths fell unconscious,” they said. “It was completely unprovoked.”

As clashes ensued, the sources said, “forces damaged private property in Danjpora by way of breaking window panes and other things.”

“Soon, announcements were made on Masjid loudspeakers and whole village came out of the homes,” local sources said, “around 2000 people assembled and chased away CRPF who were till then joined by J&K Police up to Syed Ahmad Shah Kirmani (RA) Shrine near Laway Pora.”

They added that some civilians sustained injuries but they were treated locally. “We are alert and for last many days have been patrolling our area during late hours to resist raids.”

Meanwhile, reports said that a youth was injured in clashes between forces and protesters in Khanpora area of Baramulla in north Kashmir on this evening.

Witnesses said that clashes broke out after police lobbed teargas shells to disperse youths who tried to resist police move to a youth for his alleged involvement in stone-throwing protests.

During the clashes, a youth identified as Hilal Ahmad Akhoon sustained injuries.

Later, scores of women held a protest on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, which disrupted the movement of traffic.
