In order to curb the menace of illicit distillation, on the direction of Excise Commissioner Tsering Angchuk, a team of Excise Department in presence of ETO Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range Shokat Hayat Mattoo and inspector Touseef Mustafa Wani in coordination with Dy SP HQ Kishtwar Touseef Rishu Sunday conducted raid at village Ohlie of Padyarna (Nagsini) in district Kishtwar.
During the raid, a series of houses were raided and were found possessing and manufacturing of illicit liquor in violation of Excise Act Svt 1958.
About 70 litres of Lahan were found during the raid and was destroyed, beside one person identified as Mohan Lal, son of Gukul Chand Resident of Ohlie was arrested from the spot for possessing illicit liquor and his involvement in illicit distillation of liquor.
Subsequently, the raid were also conducted in main village Padyarna wherein large quantity of Lahan was destroyed on the spot in presence of “respectable” citizens of the village.
ETO Shokat Mattoo also warned the people against involvement in such activities and said that strong action will be taken against the violators of the law.
He told the people that illicit liquor is the major health hazard in addition to the loss to the state exchequer.
He also sought cooperation from the general public in this regard.
