Intense clashes erupted in North Kashmir’s Wadoora village soon after slain Asif Majeed Nagoo was laid to rest around 1 PM amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Reports reaching here said that thousands of people marched towards a forces camp on Sopore-Kupwara highway which houses 92 battalion of CRPF.

“Hundreds of SOG, JKP, CRPF personnel had already reached the spot,” eye witnesses said.

Amid pro-freedom slogans, the witnesses said, the mourners kept peacefully marching towards the camp when forces started tear gas shelling on them.

“It created pandemonium,” the witnesses said, “but people showed resistance and forces had to retreat.”

Soon, the local sources said, Rashtriya Rifles personnel reached the village and the residents were thrashed and private property damaged.

“Many civilians got injured when RR men thrashed and beat up people,” they added.

Later in the evening, intense clashes again erupted and local reports said that many people were injured in the forces action.

Asif Majid, a 17-year-old school going non-medical student was killed when forces fired tear gas shells and pellets on September 04, 2016. Eye witnesses said Asif sustained severe injuries in his head on right side. He was taken by forces in their custody and then driven to Sopore hospital.

Asif’s uncle, Sajad Ahmad said, “it took forces at least two hours to bring Asif to hospital which is otherwise 20 minutes away distance.”

Asif was rushed to SMHS Hospital Srinagar where doctors performed two surgeries on Asif but he lost battle of his life on late Monday evening. His body was brought to his home early this morning.

A brilliant student, he stood topper in his school in class tenth while his teachers believed that he would have cracked AIEEE test next year.
