#Day62: ‘4 Rifles Snatched From NC Man’s Guards’

SRINAGAR

Suspected militants Wednesday night attacked the residents of a National Conference leader, Abdul Rashid Khanday at Begam Pora Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam district and snatched four rifles from the security guards.

Reports said that militants overpowered the security guards and took away the rifles. Police sources said that they include two Insas rifles, one SLR and one .303.

Early in the day, Hizbul Mujahideen claimed that its men attacked an army convoy at Kralgund along Kupwara-Baramulla highway in Handwara when it was on its way to Srinagar.

Three army men, two identified as Havaldar Jagtap Singh and Sepoy Shafiq Malik, were injured and later airlifted to 92 base hospital of army at Badambagh.

The condition of one of the three injured army men is stated to be critical.

Army later conducted search operation in the area but militants had fled.

Meanwhile army’s 46 RR and SOG Baramulla yesterday conducted searches in Hyder Mohalla Khawaja Bagh area of Baramulla after they “received inputs” about presence of militants in the area.

Meanwhile, reports claimed that suspected militants tried to storm Police Station Pulwama tonight but the security guards foiled the attack. “Four heavily armed militants tried to force their way into Police Station to carry out Fidayeen attack at around 12. 05 a.m. but security guards fired back,” the Daily Excelsior reported. “The firing continued for 15 minutes and militants fled under the cover of darkness after failing to enter the Police Station. Massive searches have been launched by police, army and CRPF against the militant group.”
