As a mark of protest, hundreds of people offered Zuhr Namaz in main Eidgah Ajas in North Kashmir’s Bandipora on Thursday.
Sources said that announcements were made on Masjid loudspeakers asking people to come out for mid-day prayers today.
“Forces raided the village around 1 am last night and arrested a man,” sources said, “scores of police and CRPF men had come in the dead of night creating fear psychosis.”
They said that a middle aged man, identified as Mehraj ud Din, was arrested by the forces. “He is father of two children and drives a sumo.”
Soon after the mid-day prayers, the local sources said, “hundreds of men were joined by women who held anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.”
Meanwhile, reports reaching from main Bandipora town said that the area is witnessing complete shutdown while as minor clashes were witnessed in Kaloosa area.
Reports further said that Beopar Mandal (Traders Federation) Bandipora on Wednesday chose their new president. “Elections were due, so trading community chose a new president yesterday,” local sources said. “The new president in his address to the traders resolved to follow the Hurriyat Conference protests calendar.”
In Srinagar, reports coming from Qamarwari-Chattabal said that police arrested a youth near Bemina crossing.
Sources said identified the detained youth as Tauseef Ahmad Ghulam, s/o Muhammad Sidiq Ghulam, r/o Chana Mohalla Bagyaas Chattbal.
