In so far the only outcome of the visit of All Party Delegation (APD), the union government has conveyed to the media in Delhi that they should stop the hate campaign against Kashmir “in the national interest”. They have been asked to stop demonizing Kashmir, informed sources said.
At least four top ministers had a detailed meeting with the top honchos of India’s electronic media and they were told that the APD members heard clear instances of hate being generated against Kashmir and Kashmiris by the media. “This concern was shared by even the Chief Minister,” they were told.
The media managers were asked to avoid situations that would trigger hate in Kashmir and they were requested to do it in the national interest. “Please make a clear distinction between separatists and common Kashmiris,” they were asked.
The media leaders were informed that the APD received massive complaints against the skewed coverage of Kashmir and its people.
Later in the afternoon another meeting was held in which the top leaders of the print media were invited. They, however, were told that there was no such compliant against the print media in Kashmir unlike the electronic media.
Interestingly, however, the print media managers failed to get even a single idea of what the government is planning to do in Kashmir. They were told that the government was merely reacting to a situation on which the government lacks control.
However, one top person from the government made two important points. First, the reports about downgrading the security and other things of separatist leaders were incorrect. Second, the home minister will get “a single thread” from the entire unionist camp in J&K through a process of consensus and follow it.
Leaders from NC, Congress, PDP, BJP and Communists have already put across their views of way-ahead in two meetings with Home Minister and later with the APD.
All these meetings were separate. Now, the home minister would ask them to meet in a single session and suggest him what Delhi should do.
Notable to mention here, since the current uprising was triggered by the killing of popular militant commander Burhan Wani on July 08, 2016, the J&K government banned the cable TV network but restoring it in just 24 hours. However, it made some changes. All Pakistan news channels and one Indian news channel were stopped from being aired in J&K.
