CM Mehbooba Mufti on Sep 09, 2016 launched ‘Scooty for College Girls’ in Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti recalled her high school days while laying the foundation stone of a postgraduate medical college in Jammu.

Aapne seriously mehnat ki, maine nahin ki. Maine class 12th mein padhaai kam ki aur golgappe zyada khaaye (You have seriously worked hard, I haven’t. I studied less and ate more ‘Golgappas’ in class 12),” the chief minister was quoted saying by news agency ANI.

She was addressing a gathering of medical students who were applying for higher-education courses in the state.

“The most noble profession is your profession. My parents wanted me to be a doctor,” she was quoted saying.

In August, Ms Mehbooba had called for speeding up the process to establish five new medical colleges in the state.

“The new medical colleges coming up at Baramulla, Islamabad, Rajouri, Doda and Kathua will not only strengthen the medical infrastructure, but also give a big boost to tertiary healthcare and medical education in the region,” she had told a high-level meeting convened in Srinagar to review the progress of the work last month.

With 100 seats per institute, the new colleges would substantially add to the existing MBBS seats in the state, the chief minister said. (The news story first appeared in The Indian Express.)
