Suspected militants snatched four AK 47 rifles from guards of a ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Leader in South Kashmir on Sunday late night.

Top district officials said that at least two persons stopped outside the residence of Adv Javaid Ahmad Shaikh in Dialgam Islamabad around 9:50 PM.

Shaikh is PDP’s Islamabad district president.

“The unidentified persons resorted to aerial firing before approaching the guard room of Shaikh’s house in Bon-Dialgam,” sources said.

They added that the militants overpowered cops who were guarding house of Shaikh before fleeing with four AK 47 rifles.

Sources said that Shaikh was not in house. “Shaikh is believed to be in Srinagar and has not visited his home for last many days,” sources said.
