All Parties Hurriyat Conference on Wednesday expressed its serious concern over the continuous “harassment” of family members of Syed Ali Geelani.
“Such cowardice tactics are highly condemnable,” APHC-g said in a statement issued this evening.
“Dr Nayeem Geelani, elder son of Syed Ali Geelani is being repeatedly questioned and mentally tortured for the last couple of days in police stations and Cargo. He is already suffering from cardiac ailment and in year 2009 had a massive heart attack after which he has under gone angioplasty with two stents in his heart and since then he is under constant medical supervision,” the Hurriyat Conference said.
Being a patient, the statement informed, Dr Nayeem needs repeated investigations and angiography after intervals.
“On September 20, after returning from Cargo, he complained of chest pain and was rushed for medical check-up, where physicians attending him advised some emergency medicines and complete rest,” the statement said.
The Hurriyat Conference said that persistent stress and mental agony far the last few days has affected his health badly.
Meanwhile, last night a large contingent of CRPF personnel cordoned off the residence of Syed Ali Geelani.
“They are keeping a close vigil on the visitors including family members,” the Hurriyat Conference added.
Geelani is 86-year-old and suffering from multiple ailments and needs care and assistance of his family.
“It is highly condemnable that despite tall claims of being a great democracy, and their rhetoric about battle of ideas, they instead of facing him on politically, they have caged him in his house for last 6 years. Authorities are afraid of his popularity among masses and they know that Geelani Sahab is a crowd puller but they in order to defame the resistance movement are hell-bent to give bad name to on-going freedom struggle. They, with the help few of their miscreants, try to sabotage the peaceful programs to give them violent and anti-national colour so that they can hoodwink world opinion and justify the use of their brute force against us. Despite all their mockery they have failed to calm down the Azadi slogans in the valley,” the Hurriyat Conference said.
