A 22-year-old youth was killed by army in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday evening.

Reports said that youths were holding pro-freedom protests on Baramulla-Kupwara highway when army convoy passed through Nadihal area.

“The convoy came under stone pelting,” locals said, “army came down and opened live ammunition killing one youth.”

The youth, Waseem Nazir, was rushed to Baramulla hospital where doctors declared him “brought dead”.

“Waseem and the attendants who were carrying his body were soiled with mud,” eye witnesses at Baramulla hospital said. “We were cutting paddy in the fields when army fired bullets,” attendants of Waseem said.

Medical Superintendent Baramulla Hospital, Dr Maqsood, told Kashmir Life over phone, “the youth was brought dead to the hospital.”

“He was hit by bullet on left shoulder which had entered his body and reached near his neck causing his death,” he informed.

Waseem, son of Nazir Ahmad Lone, is 22 year old youth who lived in Nadihal village.

With the death of Waseem, at least 89 civilians have been killed by forces since July 09 when current anti-India uprising was triggered by the death of popular militant commander Burhan Wani.

A top official from Baramulla while giving details said that a Road Opening Party (ROP) was on way to Baramulla from Kupwara. “It comprised of a jeep and a wanton truck,” he said.

He informed that when the ROP reached near Chakla, an area named after a stream passing through it, “the ROP came under stone pelting”. “They opened fire and one youth was killed,” he said.

Further, he informed, the army stationed in the area doesn’t send out or receive any convoy on Fridays. “It is dry day for them and the army men who opened fire belong to some other area,” he said. “Police are contemplating to register a murder case.”
