J&K Police arrested a man with poppy straw in Qazigund area of Kulgam District.

On specific information, a police party of Police station Qazigund during Naka Checking at Driyan Crossing, Qazigund in Kulgam apprehended a man identified as Ashok Kumar son of Pratab Chand resident of Kathua, police said in statement on Wednesday evening. “On his checking police recovered two kilograms of Poppy straw. A case has been registered against him and further investigation has been taken up.”

Meanwhile, the police said, “two persons died while seven others were injured in different road accidents in Baramulla and Kargil.”

In Baramulla, an unknown vehicle hit and injured a 10 years old boy Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Jaffar Bhat resident of Odina at Odina, Pattan.

The injured was shifted to Noora Hospital, Srinagar where doctors declared him brought dead.

In Kargil, an Alto 800 hit and injured a pedestrian identified as Mohammad Ibrahim son of Ghulam Hyder resident of Cheychesna at Main Bazar Sankoo. The injured was shifted to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a Maruti Van bearing registration number JK10A-1249 met with an accident at Pasgoo, Kargil, resulting in injuries to seven persons including the driver.

The injured were shifted to hospital where driver of the vehicle succumbed to his injured. Kargil police has registered cases regarding these accidents.

Shop Damaged In Fire

A shop was damaged in a fire incident in Bandipora last evening.

Fire broke out in a medical shop belonging to Manzoor Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir resident of Ward. No. 03 on Hospital road Bandipora, resulting in partial damage to the shop. Fire tenders with the assistance of police and locals brought fire under control.
