One cop was killed while another was injured when suspected militants attacked a J&K Police picket in South Kashmir on late Friday evening.

Sources said that the militants attacked a picket which was guarding a minority family in Jamnagri village which is 12 KM away from Shopian district headquarter.

“Two cops were injured in the militant action of whom one succumbed to his injuries,” sources said, “the duo was shifted to Shopian hospital.”

The deceased was identified as Constable Nazir Ahmad, resident of Kulgam. The other cop is reportedly critical and has been shifted to Srinagar. He has been identified as Constable Zahoor Ahmad.

Nazir was brought dead to Shopian hospital, sources said.

The cops were guarding house of Badrinath. Sources said that son of Badri Nath, namely Poorum Ji, “too was injured in the rifle snatching attempt”. “Poorun Ji too has been shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment.”

“It was an attack on the cops,” police sources said, “the cops were sitting in the premises of the house and were not holding any weapon in hand at the time of attack.”
