Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir while condemning the wide spared arrest spree throughout the state of Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday said that scores of its activists and leaders have been roughed up during the last couple of days and some have been arrested even before the current uprising was triggered.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir (THJK) is headed by Syed Ali Geelani and is a constituent of All Parties Hurriyat Conference which too is headed by Geelani.
Referring to Peer Saifullah, who is personal secretary of Syed Ali Geelani, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat in a statement issued this evening said, “he is suffering from brain tumour and has already underwent a surgery and his persistent arrest has affected his health badly and he is under treatment at SKIMS. His family is desperate and under stress as his ailment is increasing with each passing day.”
“THJK leader Ayaz Akbar was arrested along with his son and now has been slapped PSA and shifted to Kotbalwal. Another leader Altaf Ahmad Shah has been kept in solitary confinement for the last 2 months at police station Humhama. It may be mentioned here that Altaf Sahab is suffering from diabetes and was fired upon a few years back and underwent a major surgery, which has affected his physique badly, and solitary confinement has worsened it further. In case he is really a threat to the ‘peace’ and caging him has brought a satisfactory improvement, he can at least be shifted to central jail but authorities deliberately want to harm them to take revenge, for challenging their autocratic rule,” the statement said.
Referring to other office bearers and district level activists including Shah Wali Mohammad, Gh Mustafa Wani, Mohammad Shaban Dar, Mohammad Subhan Wani, Syed Imtiyaz Haider, Master Ali Mohammad and his son Showkat Ahmad, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat said, “despite their old age and bad health they continue to be in jails and the puppet government has made up their mind to teach them a ‘lesson’ for raising their voice against the unjustified, undemocratic and illegal occupation.”
Condemning the continued arrest of noted human rights activist Khurram Parvez and shifting him to Kotbalwal after slapping draconian PSA on him, THJK said, “despite the powerful voices raised against his illegal arrest throughout the world, government seems to be in a paralyzed state and cannot even react to this uproar about his arrest.”
“Lecturing on human rights and delivering sermons on media by these rogue and shameless henchmen, is their age old and time tested deceitful mockery to hoodwink the people,” the TeH said. “By these mischievous tactics,” the THJK asserted, “freedom movements and its activists have never been buckled down in past and today also we will never succumb to these inhuman and brutal actions.”
