#Day94: Clashes Erupt In Baramulla; Forces Ransack Houses In Nadihal, Sopore

Clashes erupted in old town Baramulla in north Kashmir on Monday after forces raided the area while men in uniform allegedly ransacked residential houses in Sopore area and Nadihal village of Bandipora district.

Reports said that pitched battles erupted in lanes and by-lanes between forces and protesters. They said that clashes began after forces raided the area.

Meanwhile, reports said that paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers unleashed a reign of terror in Nadihal area of Bandipora today.

Reports quoting residents of Nadihal area said that CRPF troopers damaged property worth lakhs by hurling rocks and bricks on houses and smashing vehicles parked on the roads.

“They (CRPF men) damaged over two dozen parked vehicles in the area,” locals alleged adding that the forces were returning from Aragam and as they reached Nadihal Chowk, youths hurled stones towards their convoy. Forces personnel barraged into houses and damaged windowpanes and parked vehicles in the area.

Locals said that CRPF men pelted stones on the residential houses thus harassing the inmates.

Reports further said that army personnel allegedly ransacked three houses in Sopore and harassed the inmates for more than an hour today.

Scores of army personnel barged into the residences of Abdul Khaliq Halwai and Abdul Gani Matoo at Khushalmatto and Abdul Khaliq Kondu at Kraleteng and smashed their windows and doors.

“The army men broke whatever they found in these three houses and keep on ransacking for more than an hour,” locals alleged adding, “we first thought there was some encounter taking place as army men had cordoned the whole area.”

They (army men) harassed the inmates and even women were not spared,” they said.

“It was after along that army men left only after damaging property of three houses,” locals alleged.
