SRINAGAR

J&K Government imposed strict restrictions on the occasion of 8th Moharram in summer capital.

All the roads leading to Lal Chowk are sealed with concertina wires spread across the roads, to maintain “law and order” while as heavy deployment of forces has been made in the capital.

“A group of Shia community members tried to take out procession in Batamaloo and Chattabal areas of Srinagar,” eye witnesses said, “however, forces used force to disperse them.”

On 8th of Muharram, Shia members hold processions in Lal Chowk but government has not been allowing it for long time now. The Residency Road leading to Ghanta Ghar has been sealed with huge number of police and CRPF men deployed rom Regal Chowk and Amira Kadal side as well.

In nearby Dalgate area, the roads leading to Hyderia Hall have been sealed.

“Forces are not allowing anyone to go near the Imam Bara,” a local resident said, “a Muharram procession was scheduled to be taken out from there.”
