SRINAGAR

Intense clashes erupted in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday when armed forces cordoned off a village.

Reports and local sources said that over a dozen persons were injured in forces action in Tumlehaal and Tahab villages of Pulwama.

Police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles men had cordoned off Tumlehaal village this morning. However, youths came out on roads raising pro-freedom slogans and pelted stones on the armed forces.

“In adjoining villages of Tahab, posters had appeared last evening asking people to march towards Tahab for a pro-freedom rally,” a local resident said, “but hundreds of armed forces were deployed this morning.”

It could not be known who had pasted such posters.

“Forces left Tumlehaal village but clashes are going on in Tahab,” the resident said.
