SRINAGAR: Senior National Conference Leader and Former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said that yesterday’s episode of District Development Council (DDC) Jammu depicted anti-democratic institution and mindset of the BJP Government.

Sadhotra was addressing a meeting of prominent workers of Block Mandal at his residence today. He termed the episode shameful, unfortunate and disrespectful to the democratically elected representatives of DDC Jammu.

Sadhotra said in a statement said that it shows that by conducting elections, the government is interested in only conducting elections and does not like to allow democratically elected Institutions to function and make only powerless Institutions. Thus the confidence of the common people is badly shaken.

National Conference leader said it seems as if the government is conducting the elections to cover up their failures and for marketing in and outside the country. Ours is the largest Democracy in the world. By behaving with elected representatives in a shabby manner is not acceptable. It has sent the wrong signal down below.

Sadhotra demanded instead of Addl Deputy Commissioner Development, the Deputy Commissioner Development should be the secretary of District Development Council and for law order, there shall be separate District Magistrate (DC).

“The two power centres for the development of the district shall hamper development in the district. The DDC Chairperson shall be in overall control of the development of district if Government really intends to strengthen democratic institutions,” the former Minister said, adding, BDC are also suffering due to arrogance of the system.
