SRINAGAR: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Srinagar has issued a public advisory urging residents and tourists to avoid venturing near water bodies, in view of an adverse weather forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The advisory covers River Jhelum, its tributaries, and various Nallahs across the district.
According to the IMD Srinagar station, the region is expected to experience rainfall accompanied by thunder and gusty winds from the evening of April 18 until late night on April 20. In light of this, the DDMA has asked people, especially those living along the left and right banks of River Jhelum, to exercise caution and avoid movement around water bodies during this period.
The advisory also specifically addresses tourists, local Shikara operators, sand miners, and those using boat crossing points at Dal Lake and River Jhelum, urging them not to attempt travel or crossings without confirming the safety and condition of the water bodies.

The meteorological department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall and snow across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir during the specified period.
