Police arrested a 36-year-old Wuyen Pampore resident on charges of stalking a 21-year-old lady, who hails from the same area. Suspect Arshed Ahmad Joo has told cops that he had been stalking the said girl and passing lewd comments on her from past many weeks.
SP Awantipora Tahir Saleem told CNS that the complainant, a 21 year old student, unable to put up with the mental torture, appeared before Police Post Khrew stating that one person living in her neighborhood has been stalking her, passing lewd comments for last more than a week whenever she comes out of her home for some work.
He said that during investigation it was established that accused had been repeatedly stalking the victim and passing lewd comments upon her. SP Tahir Saleem who identified the accused as Arshed Ahmad Joo son of Ghulam Hassan, a resident of Wuyen Pampore said that the police has registered a case vide FIR number 166/2014 under section 294 RPC against the accused and he was sent to central jail Srinagar.
In another case, Pampore police in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district arrested a man for cheating and rape. Giving details, SP Awantipora Tahir Saleem said that police station Pampore received a complaint from a lady stating that she was cheated by a person on the pretext of marrying her and was sexually exploiting her from last three months. SP Awantipora who identified the accused as Manzoor Ahmad Sofi alias Captain Kanwal, a resident of Mehand Srigaufara Islamabad said that during the course of investigation it surfaced that the 21 year old victim was cheated by the accused who was introducing himself as a Major of Indian Army and promised to marry her.
“After 3 months of illicit relationship, the victim came to know that the person is a cheat as he is not any officer but a common person working as local contractor and is married having a daughter of 9 years old. The accused person was arrested from Srigaufara Islamabad and has been sent to the central jail Srinagar,” he said that medical report of the complainant confirmed that she has been sexually abused by the accused and added that a case vide FIR number 159/2014 under section 420, 376, 506 of RPC was registered against the accused.
Saleem added that crime against women will not be tolerated and drive against such criminals would continue who exploit and stalk women for their benefits.
