Exuding confidence about National Conference emerging as a force to reckon with, General Secretary Ali Mohammed Sagar Wednesday described the fractured mandate in recent elections as manifestation of deceit and duplicity perpetrated by political opportunists to divide the people by inciting passions for electoral gains.

“National Conference desisted from indulging in real-politick as it firmly believes that such tactics were detrimental to the larger interest of the sensitive state like Jammu and Kashmir,” he said while reviewing the party performance in Rajouri and Poonch districts during the assembly elections.

Sagar reiterated that National Conference will overcome all its difficulties given its cadre base and said that more than winning or losing elections, it was imperative to sustain the political environment that has been generated due to relentless efforts of Omar Abdullah during the past six years. “He succeeded in steering the state out of the morass and bringing a turnaround situation that enabled most successful Panchayat, parliamentary and assembly elections during his tenure,” he maintained.

Urging grass roots functionaries to further intensify mass contact, the General Secretary said National Conference is the only party presence of which can be seen even in the remotest pockets of Jammu and Kashmir. “Our political struggle is full of sacrifices; we have suffered immensely for upholding the just cause of people; our workers and leaders have fell to the bullets but never compromised with their principles”, he said adding the party has kept the flag of secularism aloft and worked for political emancipation and economic empowerment of all the segments of society. In this context he referred to holding of Panchayat elections after over three decades and said the objective was to seek public cooperation in decision making optimally. He also made a mention of the administrative units and said this was the biggest push to bring administration at the doorsteps of people.

The General Secretary said the Omar led government, braving all challenges, succeeded in maintaining peace and sustaining it against heavy odds. Alongside steering the state to normalcy, massive developmental effort was taken in various sectors like roads and buildings, public health, rural development, power, urban development, irrigation etc to bring cheer in the lives of people.

Sagar enumerated anti-people tactics of political opportunists and said they virtually polarized the situation during elections, as a result of which the state has been plunged into unprecedented political stalemate.
