SRINAGAR

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief and former Member Parliament Saifuddin Soz on Wednesday asked Defence Ministry not to hesitate in operating evening flights from Srinagar.

Soz met Minister of Civil Aviation, Ajit Singh, Hon’ble in New Delhi and urged him to take urgent measures to start early morning and late evening flights to and from Srinagar.

“I emphasized the fact that since the Defence Ministry has granted the much-needed permission for operating evening flights, the Ministry of Civil Aviation should not now hesitate to operate its flights in the evening to and fro Srinagar,” Soz was quoted as saying in a statement issued to a local news agency, KNS here.

“I also told the Minister that people of Jammu & Kashmir have been seeking this facility for long, especially from the time ILS (instrumental landing system) was installed at Srinagar airport, two years ago.”

The Minister, Soz said, assured him that he would initiate action shortly and keep him informed.

“The Minister further said that other airlines would also follow suit,” Soz said, adding, “The Minister agreed with me that it is a profitable proposition for various airlines as the flights can operate to and fro Srinagar, packed to capacity.” Soz also expressed confidence that the evening flights to and fro Srinagar would be operated soon, the statement added.
