Delhi CM Attacked, Hospitalised

   

SRINAGAR: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was hospitalised on Tuesday morning after she was physically assaulted during a public hearing at her residence, according to several media reports.

Quoting one of the BJP leader, NDTV reported that, a man in his 30s, posing as a complainant, suddenly slapped the Chief Minister and pulled her hair before being restrained by security personnel.

The attacker, who had entered the meeting by disguising himself as a visitor, was immediately overpowered and handed over to the police. He is currently being interrogated. Senior Delhi Police officers rushed to the Chief Minister’s residence following the incident and tightened security in the area.

Chief Minister Gupta, who regularly holds weekly Jansunwai (Public Meeting) sessions to address public grievances, was taken to hospital soon after the assault. Doctors are said to be monitoring her condition.

BJP leaders strongly condemned the attack. Party spokesperson Harish Khurana said, “We condemn this incident and demand a full investigation into whether the attack was politically motivated.”

Meanwhile, police have launched a probe to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
