SRINAGAR: The Patiala House Sessions Court in Delhi on Saturday granted bail to Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez and journalist Irfan Mehraj in a case registered against them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The order paves the way for Parvez’s release in the second UAPA case against him. The Delhi High Court had granted him bail in another UAPA case in June.
Parvez, Programme Coordinator of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) and Chairperson of the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD), and Mehraj, an independent journalist, had remained in judicial custody in connection with the case.
Mehraj was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Srinagar on March 20, 2023, under the UAPA in connection with an alleged NGO terror funding case.
The release of both Parvez and Mehraj will be subject to the completion of legal formalities and any other applicable judicial proceedings.
The detailed bail order and conditions were not immediately available.
Further details are awaited.
