Democracy Needs a Free Press, Says CM Omar on World Press Freedom Day

   

SRINAGAR: On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day,  Chief Omar Abdullah emphasised the importance of safeguarding press freedom.

Taking to social media platform X, Omar wrote, “On #WorldPressFreedomDay, we honour the courage and commitment of journalists who speak truth to power.”

“A free press is the cornerstone of a vibrant democracy — we must protect it, not just in words, but in action,” he said.

 

World Press Freedom Day is observed globally on May 3 to highlight the role of the media and the threats it faces.
