SRINAGAR: With the Covid19 pandemic still terrifying people, dengue fever has arrived in Jammu. Already two people have died due as 265 people have been reported in Jammu province.

After the two deaths, the health department in Jammu is on high alert as more than 70 per cent of cases were found in Jammu only city and remaining from other districts.

Several people with symptoms like dengue are reporting in various government hospitals daily. From October 1 to October 12, 138 cases were found in Government Medical College hospital, Jammu. A surge was reported when on one day 61 fresh cases were reported.

Of the 265 cases, Jammu based newspaper; Daily Excelsior reported 185 cases were in Jammu city, followed by 17 cases in Samba and 13 cases in Kathua. Other districts share 48 cases.

Dr Belu Sharma, Malariologist has told the newspaper that some dengue cases are routinely reported every year in monsoon season but this season witnessed a rapid surge in the Jammu district.

“We have already finished two rounds of flogging but the cases are still on rising. On this grave situation we are in contact with the Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) and they have suggested doing an additional round of flogging and we have started this in collaboration with the Municipal authorities”, she was quoted saying.  “As there is no explicit medicine to cure dengue, so prevention is better than cure.”
