SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday released Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) leaders from the Kathua jail. Around 26 YRS leaders were detained on August 21 during a protest in favor of the suspension of toll collection at Sarore Plaza on the Jammu-Pathankot highway.

The development comes a day after Jammu observed a complete shutdown on the Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s call in solidarity with the detained YRS leaders.

Quoting sources, KNO reported that YRS leaders were released in wee hours from Kathua Jail and were taken to their respective homes in police vehicles. “Most of the leaders were escorted back to their native place in police vehicles while many were still on their way,” they said.

Earlier, Police had said that the arrested persons would only be released after surety from prominent members of the civil society that they wouldn’t cause any further breach of peace.
