The Drug and Food Control Organization has closed down 158 un-licensed and un-registered drug sale outlets across the state.

As per a statement issued by the Department of Drugs and Food Control Organization, the step has been taken as per the directions of High Court. The Court has directed that no un-licensed and un-registered drug sale outlet be allowed to function in the State. The department has been ensuring that no such establishment is operational.

The Controller Drugs and Food Control Organization, Satish Gupta has stated that 9 stores in Jammu, 2 in Kathua, 5 in Samba, 15 in Srinagar, 10 in Ganderbal, 4 in Bandipora, 21 in Budgam, 20 in Baramulla, 4 in Kupwara, 19 in Anantnag, 9 in Kulgam, 15 in Shopian and 26 in Pulwama have been seized so far.

Gupta further informed that some of the owners of the said establishments were approaching the concerned authorities for unsealing their premises citing change of business and the matter has been referred to the Senior Advocate General, J&K High Court for the opinion.
