DGP Prisons, SK Mishra, on Monday inaugurated the Skills Training Centre for Jail inmates at Central Jail Srinagar.

The skills training Centre being first of its kind has been established by Prisons Department in collaboration with Art of Living Organization. The basic idea behind this set up is to professionally train inmates in fields such as electrical and computers. The Prisons Department is taking steps to create more training avenues for the inmates for their reformation and successful reintegration into the society, a statement said.

Speaking on the occasion the DGP Prisons said that reformation of inmates followed by technological upgradation of prisons and staff development are the main areas of interest for the Department.

He urged the inmates to participate in training programmes as these programs are organized for their benefit. He emphasized that learning is lifelong process and it is the mission of the Prisons Department to make imprisonment meaningful for the inmates by developing their skills and talents for which the cooperation of inmates is solicited.

The DGP further informed that a young inmate has been identified as trainer by AOL who shall impart training to fellow inmates in computers and honorarium shall be paid to him.
