Jammu and Kashmir government has asked state Director General of Police Ashok Prasad to conduct a detailed inquiry into the Fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in Bemina localty of the city and killing of a youth in alleged firing by CRPF personnel on Wednesday.

“The DGP, who is camping in Srinagar, will be making a detailed inquiry into the happenings,” an official spokesman said after a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah late last night.

Five CRPF men of 73rd battalion were killed and 10 other persons including four civilians were injured in a fidayeen attack by two militants on their camp in Bemina.

The two militants were shot dead in retaliatory action by the forces.

A 34 year old man was shot dead allegedly by a unit of the 73 battalion of CRPF at Zoonimar Wednesday.

“The Chief Minister in the Unified headquarters meeting last evening condoled the death of CRPF men and conveyed thesympathies of the government to the DGP CRPF,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman said the government has also taken note of the incident at Zoonimar in which a civilian, Altaf Ahmad Wani  died.

Curfew has been clamped in Srinagar district as protests broke out yesterday following Wani’s death.
