SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police R R Swain on Wednesday pledged to eradicate criminal activities in the Union Territory as he led a wreath-laying ceremony for slain sub-inspector Deepak Sharma in Samba district.

He emphasised that the sacrifice of the officer will not be in vain, and the force will escalate its efforts against narcotics and gangs and said that police will aggressively tackle this menace as attempts are being made to establish a Punjab-type criminal syndicate in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that a comprehensive strategy is being devised to tackle this issue at its roots.

Furthermore, Swain described the officer’s killing as unfortunate and explained that an operation was planned based on specific information about the movement of the wanted criminal, who had been under surveillance since a murder three months ago.

During the ceremony at the district police lines, the DGP, along with other officers, paid their respects to the slain officer.

Police sub-inspector (SI) Deepak Sharma’s succumbed to his injuries after suffering head injuries while encountering a gangster in Jammu and Kashmir.
