SRINAGAR: The Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) has ordered an inquiry into the death of a pregnant woman from Gurez in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, asking a four-member committee to determine whether medical negligence was involved.
Haseena Begum, wife of Showkat Ahmad Lone and a resident of Mazgund village in Tulail, died on October 14, according to an order issued by the Directorate on Thursday.
The committee has been given five days from the issuance of the order to submit its findings, with specific instructions to examine whether the death resulted from medical negligence.
Deputy Director Schemes Dr Saba Wani will head the panel. Its members include Dr Mukhtar Ahmad Malla, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Bandipora; Dr Rohana Ali, consultant gynaecologist at Gousia Hospital Srinagar; and Dr Musadiq Ahmad Khan, Medical Officer and nodal officer with the Directorate.
Begum was taken to District Hospital Bandipora on the morning of October 14 after developing complications during pregnancy. Her baby was stillborn.
According to the report, she was first taken to a primary health centre in Sheikhpora late on Tuesday evening, where no medical staff was available. She was subsequently taken to Sub-District Hospital Gurez, where doctors advised her transfer to Bandipora for further treatment due to low blood levels.
The committee will examine the circumstances surrounding the death and determine whether any lapse in medical care occurred. The Directorate will consider further action after receiving the inquiry report.
