Reacting to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s statement on his willingness to hold dialogue with separatists, CPI (M) leader, M Y Tarigami said dialogue process between India and Pakistan needs impetus but simultaneously there is need to address the internal dimensions of the problem.

Tarigami emphasized that the dialogue offer for resolving Kashmir issue should no more remain confined to rhetoric as the people cannot afford any further delay in starting a meaningful and result oriented dialogue to settle issues related to Jammu and Kashmir.

“Dialogue between Indo-Pak will remain inconclusive unless the political aspirations of Kashmiris are included in the same,” reads the party statement.

Tarigami urged New Delhi and Islamabad to give up rigidity vis-?-vis their stated positions on Kashmir and show statesmanship to resolve the problem for the prosperity and peace in the region.

“Besides taking concrete efforts for rapid development across LoC, initiating a meaningful dialogue with the voices of dissent was inevitable for amicable resolution of Kashmir problem,” reads the party statement.

Highlighting the role of people in arriving any concrete solution, Tarigami said people of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be marginalized and in this regard alienation among the people of the state be addressed with a sincere and lucid talks offer.
“As a part of confidence building measure, all those prisoners not involved in heinous crimes be released and other internal dimensions of the issues related to Jammu and Kashmir must be viewed seriously to arrive at a successful and well accepted solution,” Tarigami demanded.

Taking a strong exception to the delay in implementation of 8-point formula recommended by Government of India last year in wake of summer unrest in which more than 117 civilians lost their lives, Tarigami said, “unfortunately there is no forward movement on revocation of Disturbed Areas Act and Armed Forces Special Power Act as was recommended under the formula.”

Tarigami said state government had announced a judicial commission into the killings of civilians during last summer unrest. “One year has passed government should inform the people that what happened to the inquiry?” he asked.
