Jammu University has reportedly violated the state protocol by snubbing its late pro-chancellor’s funeral.

The controversy erupted after it was known that none from JU was present at late CM Mufti Sayeed’s—also JU’s pro-chancellor—funeral on January 7, 2016.

Mufti’s demise had mobilised the entire state machinery inside Fairview residence after the General Administration Department issued the notification that the departed leader would be accorded a State funeral.

In a jiffy, everyone had turned up including union home minister to pay homage to the top executive of the state, who died in office.

“But, VC JU Prof RD Sharma brushed aside the state protocol that makes it mandatory upon university vice chancellors to lay wreath on the mortal remains of the departed leader,” a report published in Jammu media said.

Behind the snub, the report said, was a “grudge factor”—as Mufti had expressed his displeasure over Sharma’s working as JU head.

In the face of allegations, no clarification has come from JU—in fact, all communications reaching the authorities for their comments failed.
