SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked 11 years of the Digital India initiative, describing it as a transformative programme that has redefined governance, empowered citizens and accelerated all-round development across the country.
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said Digital India has made governance more transparent, efficient and citizen-centric while improving the ease of living through technology-driven public services.
He said the initiative has touched every aspect of life, ranging from seamless digital payments and transparent Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) to the expansion of Digital Public Infrastructure, making technology a powerful tool for delivering public services.
Modi said the widespread adoption of digital technology by more than a billion Indians has transformed the country and laid a strong foundation for a developed and self-reliant India.
Highlighting the programme’s impact beyond metropolitan areas, he said Digital India has fuelled innovation in villages as well as Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, with young entrepreneurs, startups and innovators developing solutions to address global challenges.
The Prime Minister said the initiative has strengthened sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce and public service delivery by making governance more accessible, transparent and efficient.
Pointing to India’s growing capabilities in emerging technologies, Modi said the country’s progress in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and quantum computing would create new opportunities for growth and innovation.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to technology-led development, he said the focus would remain on building a future where technology serves humanity, empowers every citizen and drives sustainable development.
“Today, we mark 11 years since the Digital India initiative was launched. This initiative has redefined governance, empowered citizens and accelerated all-round development,” the Prime Minister said in his post on X.
He added that when more than a billion people embrace technology, “the impact is transformative.”
