As soon as the first day of 2016-17 budget session started on Tuesday with Governor NN Vohra’s speech to both houses of state legislature, opposition lawmakers stood from their seats and raised slogans against Ch Lal Singh.

Lal Singh is currently Forest Minister in PDP-BJP Government.

The opposition lawmakers led by National Conference raised slogans against the minister seeking his immediate dismissal.

Lal Singh recently humiliated a group of Jammu Muslims who had gone to meet the minister at his Jammu residence to settle some issues. The group led a Sarpanch had told Kashmir Life that the minister reminded them of “1947 mayhem”.

“Have you forgotten 1947,” Lal Singh had told the group. Later, the group alleged, they were forced out of the residence with Singh using abusive language against them.

“Lal Singh ko barkhaast karo, Lal Singh ko barkhaast karo,” slogans reverberated in the house while Governor NN Vohra continued his speech.

However, Lal Singh, in a presser in Jammu refuted as having using such words. “I was talking about 47 degree temperatures,” he told media, “even if it has hurt sentiments of any group, I apologize.”

Notable to mention here, the joint session of the state legislature was addressed by Vohra at Banquet Hall of SKICC. The new legislative complex adjacent to civil secretariat in summer capital here lacks space to house as many lawmakers Jammu and Kashmir has.
