The fresh steps towards government formation in Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed new developments with PDP and BJP not reaching to final decision on distribution of portfolios.

PDP and BJP leaders were scheduled to meet governor N N Vohra where they were expected to stake claim over government formation in J&K. However, an official spokesperson said Friday evening that the alliance partners asked for more time.

BJP party sources said that its state president, Sat Sharma, Dr Nirmal Singh and two secretary generals were holding meeting with PDP leadership which reached Jammu early this afternoon.

“Yes, discussion is going and distribution of portfolios have emerged as a hurdle for any forward movement (over government formation),” sources, who asserted to remain anonymous, said. “It will remain same as was during late Mufti Sahab’s time, however, deliberations are going on over one important portfolio.”

BJP held its legislative party meet in Jammu today where BJP J&K point-man Ram Madhav discussed government formation with them. BJP picked Dr Nirmal Singh as Mehbooba’s deputy in new government.

“There are chances we may get one more berth in state cabinet,” BJP sources claimed.

Meanwhile sources said PDP and BJP are scheduled to meet Governor N N Vohra on Saturday at 3:30 PM.
