Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today chaired a meeting in pursuance to the  High Court directions regarding the Writ Petition (Civil) No.19/2019 titled “Court on its own motion V/s state and others.”

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Budgam (through Video Conferencing); Director ERA, Kashmir; Director Rural Development Department, Kashmir; Director Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir; Chief Engineers of I&FC, PHE, UEED and R&B, Kashmir;  Commissioner, SMC; Kashmir  Joint Director, Forest, Deputy Director Rural Sanitation and other concerned.

On the occasion, Div Com instructed the concerned officers to ensure cleaning and maintainence  of water bodies including Doodhganga Nallah which is the source of irrigation as well as drinking water for a huge chunk of population of Srinagar and Budgam districts.

He directed the officials to take immediate steps to make whole stretch of the Doodganga Nallah environmentally clean and to remove all the encroachments along its banks. He also directed for immediate cleaning of plastic, polythene and other waste material and litter along its banks.

Div Com also directed the concerned to sensitize people living near the banks water bodies about the fragility of the environment and ill effects of the polluting them.

He asked the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam to declare the banks of the Dhoodh Ganga and the adjoining areas as ‘no litter zone’. He also directed the Medical Superintendent of Bone and Joint Hospital to ensure that no medical and municipal waste generated by the Hospital is dumped near the banks of the Nallah.

Chief Engineer P.H.E, Kashmir was asked to come up with a report regarding the water quality of the Nallah on daily basis.
