SRINAGAR:

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Monday convened a meeting to review the progress on the development of new parks, gardens and commercial floriculture across the Kashmir division.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Director Floriculture Mohammad Hussain Mir, Director SIDCO, Director Industries & Commerce and other concerned attended the meeting, while as Deputy Commissioners of other districts including Kargil participated through video conferencing.

The meeting was informed that Revenue Department have indentified 60 kanals of kahcharai and State land in Anantnag, 133 kanals in Ganderbal, 11 kanals in Budgam, 40 kanals in Kupwara, 44 kanals in Baramulla, 55 kanals in Bandipora, 70 kanals in Kulgam, 188 kanals in Pulwama, 20 kanals in Srinagar and 200 kanals in Kargil district for development of parks, gardens and commercial floriculture.

On the occasion, the Div Com asked the Deputy Commissioners to prepare DPRs for these projects to be communicated with Floriculture within one month. He also directed the concerned to clear all revenue related matters in a time bound manner so that work on these projects is taken up at the earliest.

He directed for deputing a team of Floriculture officials to every district so that they prepare a field and technical report of land sites where new parks and gardens are to be developed. He said these parks and gardens would act as leisure points for the general public who can spend their weekends and holidays with family members.

The Divisional Commissioner said that floriculture is the sunrise industry and has a huge potential in addressing unemployment. He said that if properly exploited and backed with technical and scientific guidance, the floriculture sector can help in boosting the State’s economy.
