SRINAGAR: Amid ongoing snowfall and treacherous road conditions, the District Magistrate of Baramulla and the Traffic Police, Rural Kashmir, have issued strict travel restrictions for motorists on key routes, including Tangmarg-Gulmarg and other hilly areas of the region.
The advisory—enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), 2023—prohibits heavy vehicles and buses from travelling beyond Tangmarg. Only light vehicles fitted with anti-skid chains are allowed, and even these are restricted to essential travel.
Tourist vehicles are permitted to operate solely between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. Meanwhile, authorities have been directed to expedite snow clearance and sprinkle salt on frozen surfaces to facilitate safer travel.
The Traffic Police emphasised that only 4×4 vehicles or those equipped with anti-skid chains will be allowed on other critical routes, such as Zojila and Mughal Road. Additionally, vehicles found parked illegally or operating with invalid documents will face severe penalties.
Both residents and tourists have been urged to strictly follow these guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure uninterrupted movement on these vital routes. (KNO)
