SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday conducted searches in Shopian and Pulwama districts as part of an investigation into the alleged fraudulent manipulation of service records to obtain undue benefits.
The searches were carried out in connection with a case registered under relevant sections of law concerning the alleged insertion and alteration of date-of-birth entries in official service records.
According to officials, the operation covered the office of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) in Shopian as well as his residence at Thamuna in Pulwama district. The searches were conducted in accordance with legal procedures and in the presence of independent witnesses.
Officials said documents and other materials relevant to the investigation were being scrutinised to ascertain the extent of the alleged irregularities and identify those involved.
The Crime Branch said the investigation remains ongoing and further action will be taken based on the evidence gathered during the searches.
Meanwhile, the EOW urged the public to remain vigilant against economic offences and report any instances of fraud to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir. Victims may also lodge complaints through the official grievance mechanism of the Crime Branch.
