SRINAGAR: Three individuals tragically lost their lives in a recent road accident in Doda district of Jammu, with five others sustaining injuries.

The incident occurred late Friday evening when a vehicle, bearing registration number JK06A-8682, was en route from Khellani to Sarhoa Humble. The vehicle veered off the road, tumbling down a steep 300-foot gorge near Sarhoa Humble. Of the eight occupants, three perished on the spot, while the remaining five were injured.

The deceased victims were identified as Minay Kumar and Lal Chand, both residents of Sarhoa Humble, and Karan Jeet Singh, the son of Shib Charan. Survivors include Sanjay Kumar, Manjeet Singh, Kushal Kumar, Mintu Kumar, and Sunahir Lal, all residents of Shrwa Doda. The injured individuals were promptly transported to GMC Doda for medical treatment.

In response to the tragedy, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Doda, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, announced an interim relief of Rs 50,000 from the District Red Cross Fund for the families of the deceased. Additionally, a case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway.

The Kashmir political community has also expressed their condolences.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), shared his thoughts on Twitter, stating, “Saddened by the road accident in Doda in which 3 labourers lost their lives. In this hour of grief, I convey my condolences to the bereaved families. I also pray for the five others injured in the same accident and urge the authorities to provide compensation to the kin of the deceased and ensure appropriate measures are taken for the specialized treatment of injured.”

M Y Tarigami, a leader of the CPI(M), also expressed his condolences on Twitter, saying, “It’s heart-breaking to know that 3 labourers lost their lives while 5 others suffered injuries in a horrific accident in Doda district. Urging the @OfficeOfLGJandK to provide adequate compensation to the families of the deceased and ensure best possible treatment for injured.”
