Don’t let winter season become impediment in works’ execution: Ms Mehbooba tells officers

Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti today directed the divisional administration not to let the winter season in the Valley become an impediment in the execution and completion of developmental works. She also impressed upon the PDD authorities to devise mechanism for doing away with unscheduled cuts in power supply during winters.

Chairing an officers meeting here to review the winter arrangements in the Kashmir Valley, the Chief Minister asked the divisional administration to identify the components of developmental works which could be taken up and executed during winter months. She specifically flagged works like dredging and de silting, earth cutting, interior works etc which could be taken up during winter months.

Mehbooba Mufti expressed her dismay over the reports of frequent and unscheduled cuts in power supply in the Valley and asked the PDD authorities to devise ways and means to ensure regulated supply of electricity during winter months. She specifically directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply at the shrines of the Valley in view of coming Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).

The Chief Minister was informed that the PDD has launched a programme of grid stabilisation and once the same is attained, unscheduled cuts would be minimised to a large extent. She was also informed that at present 1600 megawatts are drawn against an agreed load of 1172 megawatts whileas only 1150 megawatts are available to meet the demand. This leads to some unscheduled cuts but that too varies from feeder to feeder, the Chief Minister was told.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also reviewed the supply and availability of ration, fuel, drinking water etc.

The Chief Minister was informed that ample stocks of rations, petrol, LPG and kerosene are dumped in the Valley which would be sufficient for longer periods. Also the ration stocking in hilly and snow bound areas besides Ladakh region has already been done, she was informed.

On the snow clearance preparedness, the Chief Minister was informed that 125 machines have been readied by R&B Department and MED and Control Rooms at divisional, zonal and district levels have been established. She was also informed that several Water Supply Schemes are currently under execution in the Valley and would be completed soon.

Mehbooba Mufti also took a detailed review of current status of several mega projects under execution in the Kashmir valley. She was told that work on seven major bridges is on besides 18 buildings are in various stages of completion. She was informed that most of the work on multi tier parking facility in Srinagar city has been done and it would be ready soon.

The Chief Minister directed the administration to prepare a list of people and properties which were affected due to recent turmoil so that possibilities of their rehabilitation could be explored.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, IGP, Kashmir Zone, SJM Gillani, Divisional heads of all Departments, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, SSP, Srinagar, Amit Kumar and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
