A partial shutdown is being observed in most parts of the Islamabad district in south Kashmir including the main town to mourn the killings of two militants in Dooru during the encounter with government forces.

Local sources said that all shops, business establishments are closed while as public transport is off the roads.

Two militants – one of them identified as Asif Nasir Malik of Khargund Verinag and other a non-local – were killed in an overnight gunfight with forces in Shastargam village.

Sources said that the youth pelted stones on government forces who retorted with firing teargas shells.

The clashes spread over a stretch from Mattan chowk to Lal Chowk of the town. The clashes triggered a partial shutdown in the town amidst chaos.

Meanwhile, authorities have snapped internet services in the district.
