SRINAGAR: A detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of the Baba Reshi–Gulmarg road has been prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 4,034.25 lakh (about Rs 40.34 crore), but the project is currently under examination and has not moved to execution, the government told the Assembly.

The information was supplied in a written reply to a starred question tabled by Irfan Hafiz and placed on record by the Deputy Director Planning of the Public Works Department, Jammu and Kashmir. The reply noted the DPR has been completed in the backdrop of persistent public and stakeholder demand for improvement of the route linking Baba Reshi and Gulmarg.

Officials said the DPR, prepared at the estimated cost noted above, is under departmental examination and has not yet received the clearances or funding commitments needed to begin work. The response made clear that a formal go-ahead, including allocation of funds and administrative approvals, is required before procurement and construction can commence.

On a related local artery, the department said estimates for the balance work to upgrade, macadamise and complete the Dandmouh Setrisern–Nagbal road are being prepared. It added that work on that road will be taken up under the appropriate head of account, but only subject to the availability of resources.
