DPS Srinagar Clinches Inter-School Basketball Championship After Unbeaten Run

   

SRINAGAR: Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar emerged champions of an inter-school basketball tournament after defeating Doon School Srinagar 42-39 in a closely contested final, capping an unbeaten campaign against leading school teams from across the Valley.

The tournament featured ten schools and was conducted on a knockout basis, with DPS Srinagar producing a series of commanding performances to lift the title. The team began its campaign with a convincing victory over Life School Budgam in the opening round before overcoming Birla Open Minds Pampore in the semi-finals to secure a place in the final.

In the title clash, DPS Srinagar held its nerve in a tense encounter against Doon School Srinagar. Displaying disciplined teamwork and effective game management, the side maintained control during crucial stages of the match to secure a narrow three-point win and claim the championship trophy.

Divisional Sports Officer Central of the JK Sports Council, Javeed-ur-Rehman (JKAS), attended the prize distribution ceremony as chief guest. He commended the tournament for providing a platform to young athletes and stressed the importance of sports in the overall development of students.

Speaking on the achievement, DPS Srinagar Principal Shafaq Afshan said the victory underscored the role of physical education in shaping well-rounded individuals. She credited the students’ success to dedication, discipline and structured training.

Chairman Vijay Dhar said the institution remained committed to promoting character-building and leadership through competitive sports, adding that the triumph reflected the school’s emphasis on teamwork, perseverance and holistic development.

The tournament was organised to encourage sporting excellence and foster healthy competition among students while promoting physical fitness and teamwork.
