Azhad Arshad – a student of DPS Srinagar, has been selected as Captain of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket team for the 64th National games of India under 14 category, said DPS spokesman.

In a statement, a spokesman said that the games will be held in Indore from 26th to 31st December.

“Azhad has been an outstanding player from the zonal level, and continued his excellent run at district and divisional level,” said DPS spokesman in a statement.

“After a stellar performance in the three inter-divisional matches for Kashmir against Jammu, Azhad was rewarded with a selection in the state team drawn from both divisions. Azhad credits his mentor and coach Iqbal Dar – Cricket coach at the school, for his success,” he added.

He said “My coach has honed my technique, and developed in me the confidence and stamina to better my game. I am indebted to the school for providing me the opportunity and exposure.”

Congratulating him on his praiseworthy feat, the Principal Alistair R A Freese said “It is heartening to see that our students are moving to leadership roles and making the school proud. We are proud of Azhad.”

The Chairman, Vijay Dhar also congratulated the student and said “The school is extremely proud to serve as a platform for nurturing talent and instilling leadership in students. We will continue to serve the valley and restore its glory.”
